New York is a wonderful and historic
place. Two years ago, BHS teacher Bob Runyan took a group of
freshman student for a visit. It was a fun trip for both Mr.
Runyan and the students. It was such a success that he has
decided to organize another trip to New York this year.
He plans to give the eighth grade an opportunity to see
what it’s like in the Empire State. So far, thirty nine
students are scheduled to attend. They will be leaving on
March 23rd and returning on March 27th.
Currently, there are sixteen parent chaperones signed up to
assist Mr. Runyan during the four day period.
There are many activities planned as well. The students
will make a stop in Hershey Pennsylvania to visit Hershey
World; They will see how the delicious chocolate is made. They
are also going to experience a Broadway musical, The Phantom
of the Opera. A Broadway performer will teach an acting and
singing class, which is sure to be a rare and memorable
opportunity. A visit to historic Ellis Island to visit the
monumental Statue of Liberty is also among the list of
activities. Lastly, the eighth graders will be shopping in
Chinatown and dining in Little Italy.
When I asked Mr. Runyan what he expected his students
to learn during their trip he replied: “The diversity of New
York City first and foremost. That there is a bigger world out
there to experience, other than the greater Cincinnati area.
That they may have a once in a lifetime chance to see what
they may have only seen on television.”
It is a wonderful opportunity for BHS students to leave
the small town of Bellevue and experience History at such a
young age. It is sure to be an exciting and memorable trip.
